It sounds like a job too good to be true, but it really is happening! Cadburys the legendary Birmingham brand is looking for four people to spend their days tasting new chocolates and ideas before they hit the shelves. The successful candidates will be sampling both chocolate products and cocoa drinks to help Mondelez International perfect their range.

The good news is that no experience is required as full training will be provided.

The four new roles are ideal for those with a passion for confectionary. The lucky candidates will work for up to eight hours a week in order to avoid ‘palate fatigue’. They will be required to taste chocolate and cocoa beverage goods and use clearly defined vocabulary to describe products. Tasters will be based at Reading Scientific Services Ltd on the Whiteknights campus of Reading University, and shifts will take place between Tuesday-Thursday 9.30am-12pm or Monday–Thursday 3pm–5pm. The pay will be £9 per hour and the role comes with a holiday allowance and pension.

Anyone who gets past the interview stage will have to pass a series of chocolatey challenges, including being able to detect differences between two pieces of chocolate. In addition to this they must also be “eager to try new and inventive products” and should have “a firm grasp of the English language”. As they will work as part of a team they must be able to share opinions, give honest feedback and collaborate with others to reach an agreement on taste.

In 2017 the company advertised for a single tester position, and received 1,500 applications in the first 24 hours. In total there were over 6,000 applications from countries as far away as Australia and the US. On that particular occasion Angela Castleton from Reading beat the competition and got the much sought after position.
