Every business has potentially harmful manual handling tasks.
Employers are required to ensure that any of their staff who are likely to lift, carry or push during the course of their duties, must be properly trained in Manual Handling techniques. Manual handling accidents account for most workplace injuries and are a big cause for staff absence. They can cause both short and long-term back health problems, yet the sad fact is that most of them are preventable. For these reasons this program of study should be considered as a preventative measure and a cost effective alternative to otherwise having employees pursue their employers for compensation.
Manual Handling training courses overview
These courses will demonstrate why manual handling plays such a central role in occupational safety. Students will learn how to maintain effective and successful safety procedures and strategies in their workplace, and thereby reduce the number of work related accidents.
Students will learn through classroom based instruction, discussion and debate as well as practical activities. Within a realistic training environment they will be taught by highly experienced tutors who will teach them the process of lifting and moving loads safely. In lessons they will receive handouts, PowerPoint presentation and all the study material that they require.
Students will learn about the risks associated with manual handling, the common sense measures they can take to reduce risks, and also the about the responsibilities of both employers and employees. They will study both practical skills and relevant theory on promoting excellent standards of occupational safety. Delegates will understand the dangers of moving or handling in the wrong way, and of how to correctly handle sharp, hot, cold, difficult to grip or heavy loads. They will learn how to work within an environment that has uneven or slippery floors, small spaces and be taught how to take every reasonable precaution to ensure their own safety. Modules have a strong focus on encouraging students to redesign tasks so as to avoid having to physically move loads and instead use automated or mechanised processes.
The ultimate aim of the course is to foster an environment where employees that are happy, healthy and feel safe in their working environment and therefore work more effectively. Syllabuses revolve around the needs of people and relate to what they do on a day by day basis. Due to the nature of this course and the fact that lifting methods can be physically demanding, candidates should ideally be physically fit and in good health before they enrol on a course.
