Responsible for the day to day running of the Dispensary, ensure the provision of quick, efficient and accurate dispensing of medication to the patients.


  • Providing clinical supervision and professional leadership to the medicines management team.
  • Ensuring the effective financial control of the Dispensary.
  • Answering health and drug related queries from patients and other health professionals.
  • Managing the Dispensary team.
  • Assisting the Practice Manager with the appraising of Dispensary staff.
  • Maintaining adequate stocks, and ordering more drugs to ensure timely stock rotation.
  • Collecting and recording prescription charges.
  • Advising patients correctly on operational matters such as waiting and collection times.
  • Collecting prescription charges from patients.
  • Carrying out general administrative and IT tasks.
  • Assisting the Practice Manager and colleagues in any way during the course of the day.
  • Keeping the Practice manager informed of all practice issues that may arise.
  • Working alongside the Practice Manager with recruitment and HR issues.

  • Maximising the cost-effective prescribing of medication.
  • Improving the quality of patient care.
  • Willing to undertake alternative duties as reasonably directed by managers.
  • Managing stock and minimising stock leakage.
  • Dealing with returned medication from patients by properly destroying them.
  • Understand the side effects of all drugs.
  • Dealing with methadone and other addictive drugs.
  • Knowledge of both clinical and dispensing standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Familiar with the latest pharmacy legislations.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and evaluate own work.
