This is an Indo-Aryan language that is spoken almost exclusively in the UK by people of Indian descent. There are estimated to be over one million people of Indian descent within the UK, the vast majority will speak Hindi as their second language. This is because most of them are second or third generation descendants of immigrants. The majority of people who speak this language are based in the capital London where there have been well established Indian communities for over 50 years. Surveys have estimated that over 430,000 thousand people of Indian ethnicity live with in Greater London, adding to the cultural diversity of the capital.

In the UK Indian films from bollywood are very popular within the British Asian community. Hindi is the language that is used in these films. Hindi songs are also very popular with Asians in the UK, can be heard regularly at Asian weddings etc.

There are many Hindi newspapers, radio stations and TV stations being broadcast in the UK, they are estimated to have a potential captive audience of over 1 million people.

It is the official language of India, and is spoken mostly in that country in the northwest and also central districts of that country. However in Indian courts English is the official language.
