Responsible for promoting and implementing the Council’s planning policies and objectives as set out in the department’s adopted plans.


  • Ensuring that applications received are assessed under relevant local and national planning legislation and in accordance with any statutory obligations, policies and good practice.
  • Liaising closely with Housing Operations staff to ensure that maximum benefit is derived from any new building initiatives.
  • Providing appropriate training and support for others in the planning team.
  • Acting as duty officer on a rota basis for personal callers to the office.
  • Investigating issues of compensation, complaints and insurance claims.
  • Able to build solid working relationships with peers and senior leadership.
  • Making sure that affordable housing, including supported housing, is delivered to meet local priorities.
  • Carrying out surveys and field studies.
  • Ensuring high level of confidentiality is maintained in all aspects of work.
  • Setting clear performance targets and customer service standards for the planning team and then monitoring staff performance to ensure targets are met.
  • Giving information and advice to people to help them make informed choices about the options open to them.
  • Attending monthly team meetings and weekly one to one case conferences.

  • Writing concise and accurate reports on planning applications and enforcement matters.
  • Can anticipate requirements and proactively provide additional information and advice on relevant issues as they arise.
