What to put in a management CV
As with all resumes focus and write it for the position you are applying for. Read and analyse the advertised job description carefully and make detailed notes on what the employer is looking for. Include information that matches the vacancy requirements, highlight any promotions you may have achieved.

Problem solving skills
Emphasise and give examples of your analytical approach to break down complex problems.

Budgetary control
Demonstrate your skills at daily accounting, monthly/quarterly/ annual reporting, cash flow controls, salary calculations, budget control etc. Show how you can improve business efficiency and cut costs without affecting productivity.

Communication skills
Ability to work under the pressure and negotiate and liaise with others to reach conclusions. Experience of developing successful relationships with potential new clients and also existing customers.

Project management
Highlight successful project delivery, including working on a variety of client engagements and ensuring high quality standards. How you can break down projects into smaller manageable sub projects. Give examples of how you can:

  • Project manage.
  • Estimate project costs.
  • Multitask.
  • Prioritise.
  • Write progress reports.
  • Analyse feedback.
  • Be in control of several projects at the same time.

Decision making
Able to take and implement tough decisions handle conflicts or dissatisfaction arising from them. Demonstrate your proven ability to:

  • Identify the purpose of your decision.
  • Gather information on the subject matter.
  • Understand what criteria the solution should meet.
  • Evaluate each option and its consequences.
  • Identify the best solution.
  • Put the decision into action and monitor and evaluate its progress.

Highlight your ability to estimate the time and effort required to complete a task. As well as organising staff to carry out specific responsibilities to achieve set goals. Mention your experience at developing schedules and timetables with clear, specific milestones and deadlines.

  • Explain how you can identify critical tasks and prioritise them in logical order.

  • Draw attention to your specialist managerial knowledge of your own industry sector and market place.
  • Summarise any successful projects you have been involved in.
  • Proven ability to increase sales by providing support to marketing campaigns and spotting gaps in markets.
  • Able to manage and motivate people, show how you can create a team out of your staff.
  • If you have worked for major companies or well known brands then place special emphasis on these. Describe the products or services you have been involved as well as the challenges and hurdles you have overcome.
  • Give examples of how you can monitor progress and identify or find solutions to problems.

  • Able to responsibly manage large budgets.
  • Experience of outsourcing.
  • Do not write a jack of all trades CV, these can be rejected very quickly. Instead target your CV at the vacancy you are applying for.
