On this page we this page we have brought together all the resources you need to write a resume that shows you as a result driven individual who always over achieves.

How to write a Sales Manager resume

A Sales Manager resume has to be more than just be a laundry list of everything you’ve done in your career. At all costs avoid boring the reader with information overload. Instead, produce a document that shows you have the personality, drive and ambition needed to not only assemble a winning team but also lead them to increasing revenue and profits.

In it include you most relevant work history, achievements, competencies, education, training, certifications, awards, and even extracurricular activities.

Ideally you should target it at the vacancy you are applying for. This will vastly improve the effectiveness of your job search efforts. Do this by writing one that matches the employer’s requirements. All of this is not as hard as it sounds, as you can get all the content to include in the job advert.

It’s also important to note that how you present your resume is just as important as what you write in it. Go for an easy to read, organised design where key information is easy to find. Include lots of white space that breaks blocks of text up and makes a page easy to scan.

Sales Manager resume layout

Never send in a disorganised resume that has information all over the place.

This is because a recruiter spends as little as 10 seconds scanning your application looking for relevant information. If they can’t find any, they will just move on. In essence a simple quick glance may decide your future. Remember that hiring managers typically go through 100’s of candidates and piles of CVs, all in within a limited time period.

Make it easy to scan and read

Do this by using an organised chronological format where sections are clearly labelled and listed in order. As readability is vital, only use fonts that are easy on the eye.

Here is the layout of a chronological CV, with all the information in them arranged by date order:

  • Name and contact details
  • Personal profile
  • Career history
  • Skill sets
  • Educational qualifications
  • References

First impressions count, especially in the world of recruitment. Meaning if your resume looks good, it’ll get results.

Sales Manager Personal Summary

Also called a professional statement it sits at the top of your CV and is an introduction to your resume. As it’s the first thing that recruiters will read, it’s one of the most important parts of your resume.

Write a compelling sales focused one by starting with a strong sentence that introduces you as a perfect fit for the position. Then get straight to the point and convey who you are and why you are the best person for the job by highlighting your most relevant strengths, experiences, and achievements.

Tip

Mention the name of company you are applying as well as their industry, products, and services. This demonstrates that you have taken the time to research their operations. It also makes your application more personal and shows that you are not using the same cv to apply for 100’s different jobs.

Example:

“I come to you as a highly motivated and proven Sales Manager who has over ten years of experience of overachieving targets in the ………. industry. As per your requirements I have a consistent track record of increasing departmental sales. I have noticed that ………… (company name) has recently started marketing …………… (product), I must point out that in my current role I increased market share of this exact product by over 40% during a twelve-month period.

Being a result orientated individual, I am always the first to arrive at the office and the last to leave. Furthermore, you can rely on me to set an example to others in professionalism, manners, language, work rate and dress code. I am a firm but fair manager, who rewards success, but who is not afraid to discipline under performers.”
